Setting preferences

Choose File > Preferences to set various Flash parameters. See also Setting drawing preferences.

Bitmaps on Clipboard (Windows only) Places a bitmapped version of your drawing on the Clipboard, in addition to the standard Windows Metafile information, when you choose Edit > Copy. This is useful when pasting information into an application that works best with bitmapped drawings. You can choose a bitmapped format and resolution, as well as enable anti-aliasing.

Size limit (Windows only) Limits the amount of RAM that is used when putting a bitmapped image on the Clipboard. Increase this value when working with large or high-resolution bitmapped images. If your computer has limited memory, choose None.

Gradients on Clipboard Controls the quality of gradient fills placed in the Windows Metafile that is generated each time you copy elements to the Clipboard. Because of limitations of the Windows Metafile format, generating these gradients can be slow. If you are only pasting back into Flash, choose None to speed copying. Flash always keeps the full gradient quality with its native Clipboard data.

Printing Options (Windows only) Disables PostScript output when printing to a PostScript printer. By default, this box is not checked. Select it only if you have problems printing to a PostScript printer. Printing to a PostScript printer can be much slower when Flash's PostScript is disabled.

PICT Settings for Clipboard (Macintosh only) Controls the type of PICT information that is generated when you use Edit > Copy. Choose Object to keep your drawing information in a vector format or choose one of the various bitmap formats. These options are similar to the options available with the PICT Export dialog box. The default is Objects at a resolution of 300 dpi with PostScript Included.

Undo Levels Sets the number of undo/redo levels (up to 200). Undo levels require memory; the more undo levels you use, the more system memory is taken up. Setting a large number of levels of undo can increase the amount of memory Flash requires.

Shift Select Controls how Flash handles selection of multiple elements. With Shift Select off, clicking additional elements adds them to the current selection. With Shift Select on, clicking additional element deselects other elements unless you hold down the Shift key.

Show Tooltips Displays Tooltips when the pointer pauses over a window emblem. Deselect this option if you don't want to see the Tooltips.

Disable Timeline Docking Keeps the Timeline from attaching itself to the application window once its been separated into its own window. See also Using the Timeline.
